Children & Youth

We aim to be a child-centred and child-friendly cathedral church family.

We welcome children’s contribution and presence with us as full members of the church.

We celebrate the presence and contribution of people of all ages and constantly strive to be a community where everyone feels welcome, valued and able to worship.

Young people matter to us. We have many activities for young people including Little Fishes, Young Church, Pathways, Absolute Chaos Youth Club, Junior Choir (see 'Cathedral Music' page) and opportunities for participation in services as a Crucifer or an Acolyte.  For more information please contact the Cathedral office.

Little Fishes takes place at 10am every Wednesday morning during term time in the Cathedral Centre and is designed for pre-school aged children and their caregiver.

There is a half-hour session of structured action-singing followed by a shared morning tea and then play-time with the toys. Cost is a gold coin for each child.

Young Church meets at 9.45am during term-time in the Cathedral Centre and welcomes children of all ages. Young Church offers a vibrant and engaging programme of activities for children.

Pathways meets at 9.45am during term-time in the Cathedral Centre. This group offers maturing young people a space to explore their faith with their peers in a session less structured than Young Church and more self-directed by the group itself.

Youth Club meets in term time on Sunday evenings, 5-7pm. Youth Club runs a full programme of activities, both on and off-site and more information can be found on the Cathedral website. Twice a year we also run family camps at Waihi Beach and at Mt Ruapehu.

In the last 12 months the Absolute Chaos Youth Club have.........

Crucifers and Acolytes are trained and organised by our Sacristan. This ministry is open to all young people (aged eight years and above) and involves a liturgical role in our services by way of the carrying of the processional cross and candles. This group of young people also enjoys regular social activities together and often participates in our Youth Club programme.
